Kirkwood defy the odds

Mon, 19 Jul 2010 10:57:00 +0200

On Saturday, Kirkwood High travelled to Kareedouw to face Paul Sauer. As Kirkwood had to play without five regular starting players, and had made three positional changes, things were going to be interesting but Kirkwood won 23-6.

The first half was quite a close contest with Kirkwood captain scoring the only try, but trailing 5-6.

In the second half things started to fall more into place and with the two Eastern Province Academy payers - Fazel October (7) and JC Pittaway (starting at 10 for the first time), in particular, leading the charge, Kirkwood managed to win 23-6.

Without some very strange decisions the score could have been bigger, but after such a long holiday Kirkwood did well and all the hard work paid off.

Their next game is going to be much harder against Woodridge on the 31 July at Woodridge.

The scorers:

For Paul Sauer:
Pens: Scrumhalf 2

For Kirkwood:
Tries:
B Jordaan, Fazel October 2
Con: Fazel October
Pens: October 2
